Satellite Watcher app for iPhone and iPad
This app tracks the 150 brightest man-made objects in space, which can be seen by the human eye. Use it to see the time and location such objects can be seen. It also lets you record when you saw each satellite.
You can also use this app to explore all 9000 stars visible to the human eye, as well as major constellations. Educational notes are displayed for satellites, constellations and well-known stars.
Some of the apps features:
* Preview mode lets you browse through future satellite passes, displaying the magnitude, path and time the satellite will appear
* Real-Time mode shows you what is in the sky now, with the current location, magnitude and path for each satellite. If multiple satellites are in the sky, it shows them all simultaneously
* Tap on a satellites name to view detailed information including country of origin, launch date, magnitude (brightness), and more
* Tap on a constellations name to view its educational notes
* The app lets you keep track of which satellites youve seen and when. You can tell it you see a satellite now, or enter a past sighting
* The device detects your location automatically, but you can also enter the latitude and longitude yourself, or your U.S. zip code
* Choose which satellite you want to scan for, or all satellites
* Choose how many days into the future to scan for satellites, up to 30 days
* Choose the minimum elevation for a satellites to be shown
* Choose the minimum magnitude (brightness) for a satellites to be shown
* Works offline (you should go online to download satellite data once every couple of days)
* Displays weather warnings if clouds will be present (in the U.S. only)
* Works on iPhone and iPad
If you like science and astronomy, you will have great fun spotting satellites! All you need is a clear night with no moon. For best results, choose a location away from city lights. In the beginning, focus on the brighter satellites passing directly overhead. Satellites are visible after sunset (for about an hour) and before sunrise (also for about an hour) when the sky is dark and satellites reflect the suns light.
This is a great educational activity for kids.
Pros and cons of Satellite Watcher app for iPhone and iPad
Satellite Watcher app good for
Very good app, even beginers can use it and have fun. Nice idea for family activity.
I finaly got to see the space station and no one could argue otherwise! ;-)
Thanks!
Fun, has some neat functions, the more I play with it the more neat things I find. NICE App.
I enjoy this app. Gives times and direction to look so the actual satellite is harder to miss.
If you watch there are more satellites to see than the app lists so this does not always work to identify which satellite you found.
Wish the text would stay bigger when zooming in.
Everyone leading a camping experience should use this as well as a planetary app.
Satellites is a well constructed app for finding constellations in the sky. The most interesting features are that the app uses location for accurate mapping of the stars and constellations. Satellites also provides information about the naming and discovery of shown constellations. Although not suitable for experts, due to simple features and general co-ordinates, this is a good app for the aspiring astronomer.
Awesome app!!
Love how it shows the satellites for your current location!! No searching round for this guy!!
Would like to see a AR for this someday!
Some bad moments
Non-intuitive interface may be of interest to professionals but the casual sky watcher can get more value from other apps.
This app works ok and sometimes helps you find satellites, but I think they are off kilter. Last night we saw 5 satellites, none of which showed on their screens. This also happened to me when I was in Florida. Looking for another app that has it right.
Would give it 5 stars if the graphics were a little better, but the info is spot-on!
but what about the biggest satellite- the moon? Cool, you can set text size; get some star info.
The real time setting shows where the satellite is right now and its magnitude.
"I saw it" log, but you have to type in date and time manually and dont forget to press the record button before you press "Gone".
CONS:
Too small input font.
You cannot identify the one you just saw in the sky one minute ago!
You would think it would find your location for a app that is supposed to give you info on tracking.
Great app, has really added to our evenings on the back patio.
